1923 Girard, Mechanical Ocean Queen Liner in Original Box

1923 Girard, Mechanical Ocean Queen Liner in Original Box

Superb steel litho, two mast, mechanical Ocean Liner complete with both original flags and deck-mounted monoplane. Appears to have never been played with and comes complete with original illustrated box.

Although I couldn't find any references to this toy, its 1923 manufacturing date is fairly certain based on Girard's company incorporation that year, plus other construction details. A patent date of "Nov 22 1921" printed on the box refers to the motor, not the toy itself.

The ship was lithoed in black, navy blue, yellow, and red. The deck rails, rudder, and propeller are chrome plated. It has it's original "water tight" plug which allows the propeller shaft to pass through the center and stops water from entering the hull.

The three color illustrated box show the liner under full steam with a tugboat in the foreground. Clouds, a distant horizon and a few sailboats can be see far away. The illustration is repeated on three panels. The fourth is blank.

Size: 11".
